What to Love

  • Vibrant cultural scene
  • Family-friendly atmosphere
  • Excellent school system

People & Lifestyle

While once made up mostly of students, surfers, and young adults, the population of Pacific Beach has recently become slightly older and more affluent thanks to rising property values and the cost of rentals. With this shift in population comes a new wave of things to see and do. In other words, Pacific Beach is much more than just a beach.

While the beaches are a great spot for families, you can also find plenty of other things to do. Pacific Beach, known by local residents simply as P.B., is also home to one of San Diego’s more developed nightlife scenes, with a wide variety of restaurants and bars located along Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Pacific Beach is one of the biggest nightlife centers in all of San Diego. Stroll down Garnet Avenue between Ingraham Street and Mission Boulevard, and you’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants from which to choose. Keep in mind that the nightlife in Pacific Beach caters to a slightly younger crowd than Downtown San Diego.

For great food, generous portions, and a taste of local flavor you won’t find anywhere else, be sure not to miss breakfast at Kono’s Cafe at the end of Garnet Avenue.

Things to Do in Pacific Beach

Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway at the beach or want to entertain out-of-town guests, rest assured that there is something for everyone in Pacific Beach. Here are some of our favorites:

    • Crystal Pier. Whether you’re in the mood to try your hand at fishing or are just in the mood for some people watching, Crystal Pier is the place to be. If you’ll be fishing, remember to bring your own tackle and bait, and be sure your fishing license is up-to-date.

    • La Jolla Coast Bike Tour. Get active while exploring the beautiful San Diego coastline and nearby town of La Jolla via bicycle on this cycling tour that lasts a little over two hours.

    • PB Tuesday Farmers Market. Tuesdays from 2 pm until 7 pm, a farmers market sets up on Garnet Avenue. Taste samples of delicious smoothies and browse local art and photography. Find fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats, cheeses, eggs, bread, flowers, sauces, dips, and spreads along with gourmet dining options and handcrafted artisan cuisine. No cash on hand? No problem. Simply stop by the information booth and use your credit or debit card to purchase Market Money. Market Money is accepted by all market vendors and never expires.

    • Tourmaline Surfing Park. You’ll find this charming park where the rugged headlands of La Jolla end. With its slow waves, this surfing-only beach is popular with beginner and novice surfers. Bathrooms and a small picnic area are also provided.
