Welcome to Point Loma

Point Loma is a rolling, hilly peninsula that is bordered on two sides by the Pacific Ocean, as well as the San Diego Bay and the San Diego River. Along with the Silver Strand/Coronado peninsula, the Point Loma peninsula is what defines the San Diego Bay and separates it from the Pacific. Though it is a stunning place, Point Loma is more than just a beautiful area—it is also a historically important location, as it is where the first European expedition initially landed on the shores of present-day California.

With gated enclaves of luxury residences, real estate in Point Loma is highly desirable. The most popular amenities can be found here, including guarded gates, stunning ocean views, and more.

Things to Do in Point Loma

Whether you’re looking for an intimate weekend getaway or a way to entertain a group of guests, here are some of the top things to do and see in Point Loma:

    • Old Point Loma Lighthouse. The lighthouse is well-known around Point Loma--and for good reason. The central feature of the Cabrillo National Monument, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse was erected by the United States government in the mid-1800s. According to the San Diego Historical Society, the lighthouse is more than 500 feet above the sea, making it the highest lighthouse in the world. While the lighthouse is no longer in use, the building has been restored to pristine condition and now serves as a museum and beloved landmark of San Diego.

    • Point Loma Tide Pools. Thanks to their protected status, Point Loma boasts some of the best tidepools in all of California. Not only are these tide pools one of the most spectacular natural wonders, but they are also the perfect way to introduce your children to California’s sea life in a natural and undisturbed habitat.

    • Shelter Island. Shelter Island--while not technically an island since it is connected to the mainland by a thin strip--is the most popular area of Point Loma for both tourists and locals who are looking for outdoor fun and recreation. Don’t miss the public boat launches where local boat owners head out for a day on the sea, and be sure to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on Shoreline Park afterward. Shelter Island is also home to one of the most well-known fishing piers in the area, where many anglers cast their reel to try their luck.
